Voices in your head: transforming self-talk
We all talk to ourselves, often in repetitive ways–that is normal! More generally, we have habitual ways of thinking about ourselves. Steve Andreas is on a mission to help bring those internal monologues and mental habits to light. He is the author of Transforming Negative Self-Talk: Practical, Effective Exercises. He is also on YouTube–take a look! By making somewhat surprising, sometimes downright silly alterations to our internal chatter, we can change how that chatter makes us feel and even what it says. Join us as Mr. Andreas explains his method of finding a key phrase and then modifying it’s source, location, tonality, pitch, written appearance, and other qualities. As he argues, changing how a voice sounds and feels can be more effective than directly arguing with it or shouting over it.
